Meet Our Ireland-Based Field Service Engineer, Cian

Field Service Engineer based in Ireland

We are thrilled to announce that our journey in Ireland has officially begun! Cian joins us as our first field service engineer based in Ireland, increasing our number of engineers to 48 in UKI.

With Cian on board, we are strengthening our commitment to providing exceptional support and service for our partners and clients in the region as well as forging new Original Equipment Manufacturer partnerships.

Cian's recruitment follows recently published news of our new strategc partnership with an IVD market leader for maintenance services. You can read more about the news here.

Professional Journey:

My professional journey has varied over the past decade. I first began and completed an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Galway, where I first got introduced to a variety of laboratory equipment. From here, I began working as a laboratory technician at Medtronic in Galway where I worked with scientists, engineers and technicians supporting laboratory tests, measurements and analyses, writing reports on these procedures which provided great insight into the medical industry.
After a year and a half in Medtronic, I moved to Australia for 5 years where I worked as an electrical trade assistant working on multiple solar commercial and industrial projects gaining valuable electrical experience. I then wanted to continue my academic career and return to the medical device industry so I moved to Groningen in the Netherlands where I just completed a two years master’s degree in biomedical engineering. Throughout these two years, I completed a 4-month internship at Kuros Biosciences as a biomaterials engineer and helped determine antimicrobial activity of materials through antimicrobial tests to be potentially used as bone-related biomaterials in the future.
As part of this master's, I also completed a 6-month internship as clinical engineer at Portiuncula Hospital in Ireland where I gained experience and an interest in fault finding and maintenance of medical equipment.

Cian, On Joining Hugo Technology:

I was inspired to join Hugo Technology as it offers a unique combination of a close-knit supportive company environment with the innovative spirit and expertise in the medical device and laboratory equipment industry. The prospect of working with a team that is dedicated to enhancing healthcare while promoting personal growth aligns with my professional values. What excites me most about working with Hugo Technology in Ireland is the opportunity to be at the forefront in a new and dynamic market and hopefully further into the EU market in the future.

Ireland-Based Field Service Engineer Responsibilities:

Cian's primary responsibilities as a field service engineer in Ireland will be to assess, service and maintain a notable IVD device manufacturer’s products - A freshly onboarded contract at Hugo Technology.

Cian will receive training from the Original Equipment Manufacturer for all systems and devices that he will be working on, including Digital Pathology and other lifesciences products with another one of Hugo's long term Original Equipment Manufacturer partners.

Cian, On Hugo's Impact on the Irish Market:

I think that Hugo Technology’s presence in Ireland will offer Original Equipment Manufacturers several significant benefits. By providing localized support and maintenance services, Hugo Technology will help them ensure that their devices are functioning at peak efficiency, enhancing their reliability and lifespan. This in turn will boost the confidence of healthcare providers in using these devices, leading to better patient outcomes and more robust healthcare services. Our expertise will also help them navigate regulatory compliance and technological advancements more effectively, positioning them for greater success in the Irish market.

Personal Motivation:

In my role, I am motivated by the opportunity to make an impact on healthcare outcomes through technology. Knowing that my work directly contributes to the safety and well-being of patients gives me a profound sense of purpose. With Hugo Technology in Ireland, I look forward to building strong relationships with clients, continuously improving our service offerings, and driving innovation in the maintenance and support of medical devices.

Fun Fact:

A fun fact about myself that might surprise my new colleagues and clients is that I enjoy hiking and try to get out whenever possible. Over the coming year, I am planning to do the three peaks challenge in the UK where I will be climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours. A dream of mine is to complete the 7 summits where I have currently done 1 out of 7 which was Mt Kosciuszko in Australia. The next I hope to complete is Mt Elbrus in Russia.

With Cian joining our team, Hugo Technology Ltd. is excited to expand our presence in Ireland, offering unparalleled service and support to our partners. We are confident that his expertise and passion will greatly benefit our clients and contribute to the advancement of healthcare technology in the region especially with our next day corrective maintenace support Service Level Agreement.
